Applications: The technology could be used as a long wave infrared imaging system that can have a compact geometry while providing a superior focal ratio and field of view then those of existing imagers of similar size. It also has the potential to be scaled and used for larger systems or in multiple wavelength band instruments.
Advantages: Current long wave infrared imaging systems use off-axis conic aspheres or anamorphic aspheres to create an optical system in compact geometry. This technology, however, has the ability to collect greater data, while still maintaining a compact geometry.
