Color Look-Up Tables with Lossless Compression

Brief Description:

This image processing technology provides data compression for the color transformation tables which are embedded in printer firmware for optimal color printing.

Applications:

The concept is to be used in digital printing devices, such as color ink jet and color laser printers.  Color look-up tables provide transformation between various color spaces, such as device independent color spaces (CIELAB) and device-dependent color spaces (CMYK), which can depend on print media and artistic preferences.  These color look-up tables are embedded in printer hardware, typically on expensive flash memory.

Advantages:

The technique provides color look-up tables in a compressed form, with no compromise in quality.  The compression ratio achieved is 3.45.
