Light guide for solar concentration with bypass prisms

Brief description:

The wave guide is a thin transparent plate which transmits light incident on its face to one edge, at high efficiency with the use of multiple light deflecting dimples consisting of injection and bypass prisms.

Applications:

For a solar concentrator for use in photovoltaic power generation to direct sunlight incident on its face to photovoltaic cells on one edge. Alternatively, the device can be used for collecting light from an edge and emitting it from the face.

Advantages:

The light pipe with these multiple light deflecting dimples consisting of injection and bypass prisms has a geometric concentration ratio between 100 and 250 times, with an efficiency of 50% to 90% efficiency, depending on length and the details of manufacturing tolerances.
