Applications:
The Bambi gene encodes an inhibitory pseudoreceptor for the Bmp/TGF-beta super-family of signaling molecules. The Bambi mutant mice will be useful for research and drug development for cardiovascular and musculoskeletal diseases, stem cell biology and cancer biology, liver function and homeostasis, immune system modulation, etc.
Advantages:
This is the first reported mutant mouse strain with mutation in the Bambi gene. Moreover, the mouse was generated with a conditioned mutation and allows cell type specific and development time specific inactivation of the gene, enabling detailed and unbiased analysis of the effects on specific cell types at the desired development or physiological stages.
