A Behavior Observational Instrument

Applications:

This is a behavioral observational instrument in the form of a manual for use in recording maternal and toddler behaviors during limit setting interactions. It provides the definitions and parameters of specific behaviors to be observed and methods of pattern recognition and classification.

Advantages:

Children are classified on the basis of their autonomy and ability to respond to their mother's behavior, initiations and prohibitions. It is expected that the classifications reflect the extent to which a child is internalizing external controls and strategies for controlling their behavior and developing impulse control in addition to complying with their mothers' limit-setting efforts.
